Starting
from February, 1st 2015, came into force the norm EN280:2013 that
defines the state of the art of aerial platforms (MEWP) in order to meet the
safety requirements of the Machinery Directive (Directive 2006/42/CE).
The aerial
platforms manufacturers which meet this norm have had to adapt their products
to the requirements of the standard.
Here is a
list of some adjustments:
-
Anti-crunching
protection for hands, not only for the first operator on the basket, but also
for the second one -
Min
dimensions for the basket access that could never have width less than 420 mm and
height less than 800 mm -
Control
protection to avoid inadvertent operations -
Performance
level evaluation (safety level) for every safety system according to EN13849 -
Updating
of the technical files and models recertifications -
Wireless
controls requirements, according to EN60204-32:2008 -
Maintenance
manuals adjustment with updated chapter on the use of individual protection
devices

With update
of the technical files and models recertification.
These are
the most obvious changes introduced by the standard, but is very important to
know that some novelties concern structural and design calculations themes,
than the users can not detect. Other safety novelties concern
self-propelled aerial platforms.
